the story
About the band
Gumbo is an original band mixing nostalgia with modern creativity, consistently releasing new music.
from Rialto to New Milford
West Coast heat, East Coast pot
Gumbo starts the way the best recipes do: two friends who could not stop cooking. Ryan Camaioni carried the sound of Rialto, California east, that sun-cracked SoCal blend of ska, punk, and reggae rock, and set up shop in New Milford, Connecticut. With co-writer and best friend Remy Lazz, the pot went on the stove and it has not come off since.
The name is the mission statement. Gumbo is the dish where everything good goes in and something better comes out. Upstroke ska guitar, punk speed, reggae low end, funk pocket, surf reverb, a little hip hop swagger in the breaks, and classic rock riffs holding the bottom. Nostalgic but never a throwback.
And the kitchen never closes. A full album every year. An EP every season, the Seasonal Appetizers. That is the promise: quality and consistency, served hot.
